South Jersey United FC FAQ's
If you have a question that you do not see listed and answered here feel free to contact us at www.info@sjufc.com and we will get the question to the appropriate person to answer.

Q:  Why was this club formed?

A:  This club was formed because of a lack of intense, quality youth programs that focus on the minority (small amount) of serious female football (soccer) players.  This club had evolved from many meetings over the last 10 years with serious and quality people that wanted to create a Premier Program within a Club.  This way the club did not have to loose their players to another club but create a group of committed players that trained and played at a higher level of intensity and frequency within their own club.  The various boards we spoke with came up with many reasons why this would not work yet we felt that there are 16-18 players out there that would like to train more, play more and compete at a Regional & National Level.

Q:  Why so many training sessions:
A:  Research in Europe and Australia shows that frequency and intensity of a repetitive skill can improve the players overall skill ( 1st touch on the ball-No.1 weakness in a player ) and therefore allow them to have a better touch and comfort on the ball. This creates a better thinking team that develops their tactical awareness at an earlier stage because of their first touch on the ball.  Each age group will have an appropriate training time limits, number of games per year and number of tournaments as well.  Look at each age group training and game recommendations page for our club (link this line straight to the website link page) “AGE APPROPRIATE TRAINING GUIDELINES”

Q:  How many age groups will the club have?
A:  The club will form a U5 & U6 group (maximum 24 players in total) that will train once per week and play small sided games once per week on Saturdays. The club will also form U9, U10, U11, U12, U13, U14, U15, U16, U19, U23 and a SENIOR ADULT WOMENS TEAM.

Q:  What is “Small-Sided Football”?
A:  They are football (soccer) games designed especially for children with fewer players competing on a smaller-sized field.  They are fun games that encourage players to have more contact with the ball because fewer players are playing in a small playing area.  Small-Sided Games meets the development needs supported by USSF, USYSA & NSCAA of younger football players whilst maintaining a strong focus on maximum participation and enjoyment.

Q:  Who are the Sports Development Professional Coaches and other Educators you have at your club?
A: The club is very fortunate to have formed a positive working relationship with some of the most passionate teachers and educators of various fields in “PLAYER DEVELOPMENT” to help facilitate certain educational programs that will help further our growth of the whole person on and off the field.  Our players will have direct access to these professionals on a regular basis.

Q:  Who is the Advisory Board and what are their roles?
A:  The Advisory Board is made up of local professionals and business owners; their job is to assist the executive board within areas out of the board’s level of expertise, such as sports performance, collegiate recruiting & financial aid to name a few.

Q:  What League will you play in?
A:  We will support our local league South Jersey Girls Soccer to become one the most respected leagues in the State.  The club’s philosophy will be to play as many games as appropriate for each age group therefore some age groups will play in two leagues (Pags, Jags, Maps, Region  1 & USSF National Academy Development League.

Q:  Will the club support ODP & Select Programs?
A:  The Club will encourage and select all talented players’ for ODP try-outs. ODP is a National recognized program that helps players through a process that can eventually lead to the Regional & National Pool.  Since our club will have a year long curriculum all SJUFC teams will end up playing in the same tournaments as Select teams, so there will be no need for our players to play for anyone other than this Club and ODP State, Regional or National Teams.

Q:  What is a “Year Long Curriculum”?
A:  At SJUFC the “Player Development Committee” which will be made up of the senior coaching staff, professional exercise physiologists and some members of the board that are qualified in this area will determine the age appropriate frequency and intensity of the work load for each age group for the entire year broken up in to pre, in and post season.  The Club (other than the ODP players that are selected, or if a team goes to a  Regional or National tournament) will have an official Summer OFF-SEASON and a Winter OFF-SEASON to recover, recuperate and rejuvenate.

Q:  Will players be evaluated?
A:  The club will hold two soccer specific fitness testing sessions, these result will be collected as club data. Each player will have access to their own scores.  Skill and tactical evaluation sessions will go on during the course of the whole year and not just at try-outs.  After the Fall Season a player and parent meeting will occur to go over the season and the player’s evaluation during our twenty minute private end of season meeting.

Q:  Where will training occur?
A:  SJUFC has secured a training facility in the development of Woodstream  (off  Greentree  Rd) on Brandywine Drive, Marlton ( at the Marlton Utility Authority Park)  Entrance at the park is between house # 311 and #313 . Drive way will lead you to a grass area to park your car. The field is about 200 yards behind the homes located on Brandywine Drive.

Q:  Where will you play your games?
A:  We are currently speaking to three (3) facilities in the area that will eventually allow us to use their fields for game day.

Q:  Does the club have a front office?
A: Yes, office hours are from 11am-4pm, Monday-Friday at 12000 Lincoln Drive West, Marlton New Jersey 08053
